Schools version of Digimap – register for details.

Author: RGS-IBG

Ordnance Survey is working with JISC Collections for Schools and EDINA on a schools version of Digimap due for release in January 2010.

The service will comprise of two elements, a data streaming service for use with schools GIS and a web interface to provide just view and print facilities. To use the data streaming service schools must purchase software that can accept streamed Ordnance Survey data. All known school GIS providers have been included in discussions about the service and will be invited to take place in testing shortly. This new service follows on, and would not have been possible without the MapPilot which was partly funded by Becta and included contributions from the Royal Geographical Society with IBG and Geographical Association.

Details of the service, which is intended to unlock access to Ordnance Survey data (and therefore stimulate the use of GIS) for all types of schools regardless of funding status, will be released in a few weeks.
