Reciprocal Membership

As a result of the Geographical Association and RGS-IBG's continuing work on the Action Plan for Geography, a new reciprocal membership programme is now available from the two organisations, for the benefit of existing members of both. The offers recognises the commitment already made to one of the two geographical subject bodies, by providing discounted access to a subset of each other's activities, whilst encouraging individual teachers, and their schools, to apply for the respective professional accreditations: the RGS-IBG's Chartered Geographer (Teacher) ('CGeog'); and the GA's Secondary Quality Geography Mark (‘SGQM') for Schools.

The GA reciprocal offer to existing RGS-IBG School Members

Existing School Members of the RGS-IBG who are not already a GA Group member can apply for reciprocal Group membership of the GA.

Benefits of reciprocal GA Group membership

  • access to relevant GA resources for working towards registration for the SGQM (more information)
  • GA Magazine mailed to you three times a year
  • GA e-alerts
  • discounts on GA publications, conference and other events
  • opportunities to participate in GA local networks and Working Groups
  • entitlement to participate in GA CPD groups and project activities

Cost of reciprocal GA Group membership

  • £36 p.a. (in addition to the existing RGS-IBG School Member subscription)
  • And an expectation that the school will apply in due course for the SGQM accreditation at an additional cost depending on school size (small £200 p.a., medium £300 p.a., large £400 p.a.)

The RGS-IBG reciprocal offer to existing GA Personal Members

Existing Personal Members of the GA of at least two years standing, or RQT3 Early Career Teacher joint members, with a serious interest in professional development.

Benefits of reciprocal RGS-IBG Individual Membership (Fellowship)

  • access to relevant RGS-IBG resources in support of working towards achievement of the CG(T) professional accreditation (more information)
  • access to members' only area of the RGS-IBG website including London lectures on-line and members' benefits; RGS-IBG monthly e-alerts
  • the right to attend RGS-IBG regional (not London lecture) events;
  • discounts on RGS-IBG CPD courses and events; access to fieldwork and expeditions advice
  • opportunities to participate in local RGS-IBG CPD groups and activities including CG(T)-led groups
  • discounted subscription to Geographical Magazine (additional charge)
  • the right to use FRGS (Fellow of the RGS-IBG) in your title, and links to the wider geographical community

Cost of reciprocal RGS-IBG Individual Membership

  • £40 p.a. (in addition to the existing GA Full Personal Subscription, or RQT3 ECT joint membership)
