Geography Teaching Today

Over the past year one of our Chartered Geographer (Teachers), Garry Atterton, has been holding small, informal Chartered Geographer mentoring sessions in Gloucestershire. We hope to develop this further with support from David Nicholls, the National Strategy Secondary Consultant Teaching and Learning/foundation subjects for the local authority of Gloucestershire.

• Wednesday 23rd September 2009: An evaluation of the first year of the KS3 Geography Curriculum. How was it for you and your students? An introduction to Chartered Geographer (Teacher) scheme. How it works. How to audit strengths and weaknesses. Setting up of Ning network. Discussion and planning for the agenda for future meetings, Assessing Pupil Progress.
• Thursday 3rd December 2009
• Wednesday 19 May 2010 4-5.30 
• A fourth meeting was planned for schools that are interested in the Geographical Association Secondary Geography Quality Mark (SGQM). This took place on the afternoon of Tuesday 16 March 2010 at the full network meeting.
