Throughout the next few years we will be holding numerous CPD events in London as part of the Action Plan for Geography. Most of these will involve at least one Chartered Geographer. Our aim is to facilitate local networks of teachers in London by holding events at the Society where local teachers can meet and plan together.

CPD Day for network leaders
Venue: RGS-IBG London
Date: Friday 1st October 2010
Target audience: High profile Geography teachers, CGeogs, Network leaders
Number fo spaces: 20
Aim: For high profile geography teachers and network leaders to be given 3/4 sessions of training which they can then disseminate to their networks, hitting our Hard to Reach target.
Are you a network leader with access to a local or national group of teachers? Do you have a relentless drive to ensure good quality CPD is available to all geography teachers at little or no cost?
This day of CPD will provide you with a number of CPD sessions that you can take back and present to your network. It will also give you the opportunity to swap ideas and resources with other network leaders.
Programme:
10.30 - 12.30 Assessment and Leveling at KS3
12.30 - 13.15 Lunch will be provided
13.15 - 14.00 Embedding careers education into the geography curriculum
14.00 - 14.10 Discovering the Antarctic and Discovering the Arctic websites.

This event is FREE to attend as it is funded by the Action Plan for Geography.
The RGS-IBG will reimburse your travel expenses (reasonable advance booked tickets only).

Date: Thursday 7th October, Thursday 11th November and Thursday 25th November (this course comprises of 3 sessions, delegates are expected to attend all three)

Hands on session for teachers and educators using freely available web-based materials and proprietary software to achieve a range of GIS competencies including mapping data, interrogation and analysis. Limited places.

Our annual CPD day will this year included a keynote speech from David Gardner QCA, workshops based around the new GCSEs run by each awarding body and a chance to hear about the RGS-IBG's new online Polar resources.
Previous event: Creativity, project planning and teaching geography at KS2
Venue: RGS-IBG, London
Date: Monday 5th October 2009
Led by: Ian Coulson and Gerard O'Sullivan CGeog
Activity 1: Touching the world using artefacts to develop a sense of place: An exploration of the RGS-IBG.
Activity 2: Project planning; practical examples of how to put together an integrated creative curriculum.
Activity 3: A Gory time in Kensington: a transferable practical activity using the local environment for creative fieldwork ideas. Session will develop an enquiry based approach using the local environment for active and creative learning.
Previous event: School Grounds Project
Held on Tuesday 12th May 2009
Location: RGS-IBG, SW7 2AR
The School Grounds Project offered teachers a toolbox of technology skills and practical ideas on how to use the school grounds to engage pupils in geography and environmental issues. The course was divided into six sessions covering all the areas needed to run a successful project. It involved hands-on work examining how blogs, Google Maps, Google Earth and digital video can all be used in the geography classroom to enhance teaching, developing skills aimed at teaching geography to the YouTube generation. Led by Jamie Buchanon-Dunlop.
