The first meeting of the Watford based CPD network took place on 25th February 2010 at Watford Grammar School For Boys, Rickmansworth Road, WATFORD, WD18 7JF. The aim of this first meeting was to discuss the focus of the group over the coming meetings, decide how many meetings there should be during a year and then to have a practical (hands on) session on GIS.

The GIS session demonstrated the innovative ways in which freely available online resources can easily be used to enhance the curriculum and provide relevant learning experiences and skills for 21st century. It used the GIS features of Google Earth to show how the application can enhance the three stages of fieldwork; preparation before the visit, during the visit and in the follow up analysis. Different types of maps used in GIS were explained and demonstrated using other free GIS demonstrators and opportunities for their use to enhance the curriculum were discussed.
