This is a selection of lessons that focus on Sustainable Development, they are part of a half term unit which addresses environmental issues called 'Will we eventually destroy our planet?'. The first lesson introduces issues that face our planet in the 21st century and students start by imagining the impressions of a visitor from outer space. Are we, as guardians of our little blue planet, doing a good job or are we wasting the planet? Via a series of creative lesson plans that explore the issues of waste disposal, recycling and other aspects of sustainable living. The sequence finishes on a positive note exploring how we can be more sustainable in a whole range of ways.

Lesson One: Will we eventually destroy the planet?
Introduces the idea that there are many environmental issues in the news that are threatening our planet.

Students discover what happens to waste in their home town and come to understand that what happens to waste is a contentious issue.

Students understand how we can waste less by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Lesson Four: How sustainable are our lives?
Students gain better understanding of the concept of sustainable development and recognise features that would help to make a place become more sustainable.

Lesson Five: How can our homes be made more sustainable?
Pupils utilise their knowledge of sustainable development and apply these concepts to the challenge of modern living.
