As part of this network we have created a local 'fieldwork map'. Ultimately, the map will contain fieldwork resources developed by teachers from across the East midlands. It is hoped that over time this will build into rich resource of local fieldwork ideas and activities for teachers working in the East Midlands.

Previous East Midlands Network Event
Date: Thursday 25th March 2010, 9.00am-3.30pm
Venue: Attenborough Nature Centre, Nottingham

The second East Midlands fieldwork network event took place in March 2010 at Attenborough Nature Centre, Nottingham. Twenty teachers and local educators attended this full day of fieldwork CPD. During the morning session East Midlands-based teachers and a representative from the Field Studies Council provided information and resources on themes including planning a ‘best practice' field trip, cross-curricular fieldwork and GCSE controlled assessment.

The afternoon was spent in the Nature Reserve, where the Education and Community Manager for Nottinghamshire Wild Life Trust shared examples of different geography fieldwork activities offered by the Wildlife Trust at the Reserve.

The first meeting of the East Midlands fieldwork network was held on Friday 10th July 2009 at Conkers, a centre at the heart of the National Forest. Twenty two teachers from schools in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire attended the event, which took the form of a day of free fieldwork-based CPD with a particular focus on local and regional sites. A packed timetable for the day included speakers from a range of organisations, including the Field Studies Council and the Peak District National Park Authority. Local teachers also contributed their suggestions for fieldwork in the area, and later in the day the delegates were able to participate in some of the activities available to schools through the Conkers centre.

Many of the resources from the day are available to download:

Session 1: A few quick ideas for fieldwork in your school grounds

Session 2: Local fieldwork experiences (part 1)
