Jurassic Coast fieldwork weekend
Structured around two days of model fieldwork exercises, delegates selected options that were most suited to their particular areas of interest. On Saturday, they could choose from a hydrological trip along the River Wey; a whistlestop tour of key sites between Studland and Chesil Beach; or a study of processes and management in the Studland sand dune ecosystem. Each visit provided a wealth of source material for future student fieldwork and teaching. Sunday provided the opportunity to study community issues surrounding second home ownership and tourism in Swanage itself; as well as the interaction between coastal or flood management and physical processes in Swanage Bay.
Through these workshops, led by staff from the Townsend Centre in Swanage, new skills could be learned, or old techniques refreshed.
In the evenings, further ideas and information were shared through visits from Dr Anjana Khatwa, World Heritage Education Officer at Dorset County Council and teachers from local Dorset schools who use the coastline for fieldwork on a regular basis.
