Key Stage 3 Geography and Sustainable Development

Developing your thinking - Activity 15

Planning a sequence of lessons with a futures dimension

The GA worked in partnership with the DEA, funded by DFID, to develop the book Geography: The Global Dimension (Key Stage 3).

Associated materials were jointly published by the DEA and the GA, and are available to download free from the GA website. Here you will find a range of teaching and learning activities. In this activity we are going to ask you to use a futures dimension with resources that feature Zanzibar off the east coast of Africa.

  1. Have a look at these ideas about the futures dimension taken from the book.
  2. Look through the BBC weblinks to Africa's young voices, Africa 2005: Time for a Change? How I would change the world and Africa's ecological footprint
  3. Look through these photographs, which are all taken from visits to Zanzibar off the east coast of Africa.
  4. Plan and evaluate a sequence of learning that uses these resources and a futures perspective to sustainable development and the global dimension.
