Key Stage 3 Geography and Sustainable Development
Taking it Further - Activity 6
Evaluating three activities that have a sustainable development focus
Outlined below are three activities that geography teachers have used with their students. For each activity evaluate the following:
- What was the purpose of intended learning? What understandings does it appear that the teacher was trying to develop?
- What was the geographical content that was being used to underpin the activity? Which concepts does this activity help to develop an understanding of?
- What appears to lie behind the teacher's choice of activities?
- For which geographical issues/themes/places might this activity be most appropriate?
- Would you want to use this activity with your students? If so, how would you develop it to make it appropriate to your local circumstances?
- How might each activity contribute to each of the eight doorways in the sustainable schools framework?
