Geography Quality Marks
Primary Geography Quality Mark
The Primary Geography Quality Mark is a powerful tool for celebrating quality geography. It is linked to the OFSTED Self Evaluation framework (SEF) and supports the TDA's Professional Standards for Teachers.
The award is for primary schools who wish to achieve recognition for quality and progress in curriculum development, learning and teaching and curriculum development in their school. A number of schools report how this has become a model for curriculum review and development for other subjects within the school.
What is on offer?
The Primary Geography Quality Mark is available at one of three levels: bronze, silver or gold. It is a self evaluation tool based on clear and simple criteria that are referenced to the Ofsted self evaluation form (SEF). These include, subject management; teachers and teaching; pupils and learning; and the provision of broader opportunities.
- Bronze Awards are gained on the basis of evidence submitted and moderated by the Geographical Association.
- Silver Awards are gained on the basis of school self evaluation and a moderation visit (half a day) by a GA nominated consultant.
- Gold Awards are open to schools who have previously achieved the silver award and who are able to demonstrate that geographical learning is embedded across the whole school. The award is achieved by submitting a gold self evaluation form and a half day moderation visit by a GA nominated consultant.
